April is a freshman at West Springfield HS, and was recently named all tournament at Chantilly's Pohanka Classic.

A large group of Mustang Intensity Training (M.I.T.) athletes met up for one final charge before beginning their high school and middle school seasons. Without any real practice or true organization, the M.I.T. girls won two (Stafford Express & Owings Mill) and lost two (Cardinal Elite & Maryland Flames) at Mt. Vernon High School. It was a great experience and provided an opportunity for M.I.T high school and middle school athletes to play together.

Class of 2008 Graduates from M.I.T

The Class of 2008 graduated from Mustang Intensity Training today after ten tough weeks of training. WFBC has high expectations that many of our high school players will move on to their respective varsity rosters. Nearly all of our middle school players have already been selected for their respective Division 1 teams.

Congratulations on a great ten weeks and good luck to all of our athletes this season. M.I.T. will resume again in September, 2009.

U13s Defeat Westfield and Robinson to Complete an Undefeated Season

The U13 Mustangs finished their fall league season with victories over the Westfield and Robinson JV squads. With a record of 8 wins and no losses, the U13 Mustangs closed out an outstanding season in the West Springfield fall league.

During the fall season, the U13s were coached by Stephanie Bowers. During the spring, Coach Tommy Benton plans to resume as head coach.

Free Coach's Clinic on Sunday 2 November at Westfield High School

THIS SUNDAY, 2 November, Westfield High School will be offering a FREE coach’s clinic from 10am to 1pm in their gymnasium. Pat Deegan (Varsity Girl’s Coach) and Doug Ewell (Varsity Boy’s Coach) will be on hand to give live demonstrations of drills and coaching ideas that you can incorporate into your practices. Additionally, the Westfield trainers will provide valuable information regarding dynamic warm-ups and sports injuries.

Please pass this on to any coach you know who may be interested in attending.

WFBC U13 Team Wins Sixth Straight

The U13 Mustangs continued to roll through the JV league in the West Springfield Fall league with a very decisive victory over the Hayfield JV team. Next week, the Mustangs will try to cap a perfect season when they meet the Robinson JV team at Hoop Magic.

The U13 Mustangs posted its fourth straight victory with a win over the Chantilly JV team. The U13s, with all eighth graders, have continued to have very strong showings against ninth and tenth graders.

Health Screening and Pre-Participation Physical (PPE) on November 6, 2008

The Fairfax High School and The Oakton High School Athletic Training Programs are offering an opportunity for students to receive a sports health screening and pre-participation physical (PPE) on Thursday, November 6, 2008 from 6-8 pm. Our team physicians from Fairfax Family Medicine, as well as a staff of nurses, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers will be on hand to provide a thorough screening including a postural exam, joint flexibility, body fat evaluation, and information regarding what each of those assessments mean. If during the screening or physical, the physicians find something that is questionable to them regarding your child’s health, they may request further evaluation by another physician. We are asking for a minimum donation of $50 for those who pre-register and $60 for walk-ins in exchange for the PPE. The U13 WFBC Mustangs (the team that finished 6th in the nation in last year's YBOA National Championship) moved to 2 wins and 0 losses in the 2008 Hoop Magic JV league. This group of 7th and 8th graders have now beated 9th and 10th grade teams from Falls Church and Paul VI.
